I Guess a Toyota Doesn't Make the Cut....

Well, we were gonna be in the parade tonight, but got an email yesterday that a Toyota Solara is not really what they were looking for...they have a 07 Corvette etc and needed more of a classic car...yadda yadda yadda. This is a school that prides itself on voting for the princesses on the merits of character etc....and then they insist that the car be a classic. That's fine....my little red auto was too good for them anyway. I was so sorry to disappoint Laynee, but she gets to be in a parade at Preschool next week with her Halloween costume, so we are hoping that she'll figure that's the parade we were talking about. I'll take pictures there. Oh well, such is life. I believe I'll go put the top down on my "not classic enough car" and drive past Valley....and stick my tongue out as I motor by.....

Little Drummer Girl

I put off telling Miss Laynee about the parade on Friday to make sure that it was a go. I found out this morning that sure, she can come too. So, I just gave her a call...told her me and her and her momma are gonna drive my red car in a parade with princesses. She said, that would be a great idea, Auntie Laur, cuz I have a drum I can bring. Then she proceeded to pepper me with questions...
do we wear pajamas or real clothes...(isn't pajamas real clothes?)
is it a real princess or a pretend princess...
can she wear one of her crowns....cuz she has slippers she can wear too.
these are important details to a 3 year old on the occasion of her first parade. Silly me. Why did I think it was just gonna be a simple "kick in the head?" I'll try to take pics while I drive....

....returning to my Alma Mater..whoo whoo

I was just asked today if I would drive my car in the homecoming parade with the freshman princess next Friday night at my old high school, Valley Christian. I laughed out loud. I feel that I have now come full circle in my life. This is as close as I ever came to a homecoming princess. So, I said, sure why the heck not. I'm hoping I can have Dalaynee Jo in the passenger seat with me. It's her 2 favorite things...a parade and a princess...all rolled into one. Like I said, whoo whoo.

The Gift Giver

Dalaynee has inherited the gift giving gene from Papa....she called me the other day and asked if I could come to her house because she had a surprise for me. Could I say no? No.
So, I drove up and she comes running out of the house with 2 packages wrapped in Christmas paper..."Close your eyes", she yells. And I do. Then I proceeded to open the presents. One of her books and a pig that snorts. The gifts are always something she finds in her room. One time I got a jacket and a rubber boot. Always given with pure joy and excitement. I gushed over the pig and the book....(I can gush with the best of them)......when I profusely thanked her she demurely smiled and said "It's my pleasure". And I really believe it was. It was a good day.

...and here we go

I got a letter from my medical insurance company yesterday....my surgery been approved. So, now I'm waiting for my doctor to call so we can get it scheduled. My approval is good until Jan 3, 2008. It's exciting and scary all at the same time....but it's also a God thing. It's going to be in the hospital where Judy works...she tells me to drop her name, I'll get great service. Just last month, she was a nurse for one of the doctors bariatic surgical nurses when she had her baby. So, that's a good thing, huh? Keep praying that everything goes well...I'll let you know when I have a date.....whoo whoo

It's Not Just a Game...

...when your nephew is playing. Yesterday we all journeyed to Huntington Beach to watch Cal play football. He plays on the JV and they are 5-0. The score was 35-14. We won. It was a great day...Jeff and Jayne were able to come out. Combine that with the good news we got the day before about Jeff's condition and it was all good. Laynie made us yell, Go Calvin Go. Since Cal's team was playing Jeff's Alma Mater, he yelled Fall, Calvin, Fall. I thought it was rather interesting that Cal's number is 76. I told Danny and Sam that I graduated in 76 ya know...to which Danny replied "So" and Sam said "You graduated in 1776...that was the year our country got independance ya know" He's a wise acre, but he knows history at least, that makes me proud. We ended the day with chili and cornbread at Dan and Judy's house. Here's some pics...probably way too many, but we've never had a football player in the family before.....I know, I know, it's just a game.....
Dalaynee said, how can I know which one is Calvin? Shortly thereafter, he waved at her. Then she said, I am so glad I know which boy is Calvin now.

Visitors at work

Dalaynee attends preschool on the campus of our church, so it's become kind of a routine to come across the street and have lunch in Auntie Laur's office. We eat cheeseburgers and play Elmo games on the computer. Yesterday we took pictures. As you can see, it's always a lot more fun at work when Laynee is there....

Just Doing Good

At our church, we have a program where volunteers go on a Saturday to Compton, our city neighbor, and clean up houses, schools and churches. Everytime we do this we have about 300-400 volunteers. I have to make flyers and bulletin inserts etc, and wanted some good pictures to use for that stuff, so I rode along with a friend of mine from site to site. Granted, I had to wake up early on a Saturday, but it was worth it. Here are some of what I took....
This is a Bible church. It used to be a funeral home. It was a really old building, needed a lot of work....
This was in an old ladies backyard. The weeds had grown over the telephone lines!
These were some roses I took at a grade school we worked on. While I was taking them, I stepped in a hole in the grass and fell flat on the ground. Not a good thing. I'm still sore! It was a good day though.....
